Midnight

Hello,

Last night my Midnight passed away in my arms. Strike three for Petco. I hope Midnight is peaceful now, and I was happy to be taking them out right out at the moment she needed me the most, to comfort her and tell her it's okay.

I miss Midnight, and today I'm going to be shopping for a rat-sized teddy bear for Lilac to love on, I won't be getting her an adopted sissy. I just hope that Lilac likes the teddy bear as much as Midnight.

THE WONDERS OF RATS

Honestly...
Writing this one will be no sweat, I have a lot of things bursting in my mind about how amazing rats are, BUT, I don't want to be sitting here for eternity.

So first of all,

Rats are amazing, adorable, smart, sweet, cuddly animals that just want love.
The reason rats are not the most common pets are the tails. I mean, let's be honest, at first the tails look a little creepy, and this might sound creepy and weird, but their tails really have a lot of personality.

Once you get a rat, I swear, you will forget about the tails and think that the tails are a little piece of heaven. (They are.)

Rats, where do I start? Rats sit on your shoulder and watch T.V. with you. Rats come when their called. Rats race up to you when you walk in the door. I mean, when have you seen any other rodent do that? Rats are bursting with personality. Rats cuddle when it's rainy, takes walks with you when it's sunny. Rats will make your day.

So, guys. Please set their tails aside and look at rats. They are the sweetest and cutest. So what if it's hairless? I think hairless rats are pretty darn cute.

They are little bundles of joy, licking your faces and thanking you for a home...
So please consider rescuing likely snake food, and it's doing you a favor, too.

Hairless or not, legless or not, blind or not, rats are awesome. Pure awesome.

XOXO,

*Marin*

Clara and Marin's famous homestyle RAT CAKE!!!!

Yes...

It's time...

I dare you to scroll....

You still there? Okay, good. I can tell your really commited to this.

The title is really self explanatory.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Peanut Butter
Water
Teaspoon
A tiny bowl
A tiny bit of cheese for presentation (My rats adore cheese, (It's Marin) (Parentheses within parentheses within parentheses?) it's okay if your rats don't eat it, just don't put too much or they will get a tummyache)
A basil leaf for even more presentation
A microwave
Rats

You're still there... I'm really proud. :D

So how do you make it?

I know.

You don't.

Haha.

You know?

I'll tell you.

Just don't tell anyone.

Okay?

Wait...

Tell them,

About RandomlyRats

Okay?

Good.

How do you make it?

I know.

You don't.

But I guess I'll tell.

Put 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter in the tiny bowl.
If it gets too thick, add a teaspoon of water and mix gently.
Continue to add water.
Crumple and add reasonable proportions of things your rat might like. (Like crunched up cheerios or peanuts, nothing to junky.)
Add more peanut butter.
Heat in the microwave for 1 minute.
Stir, and add some cheese or something.
Put in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Put cheese in the corner as neatly as you can, this is for presentation.
Get a pretty basil leaf and gently top it on the cheese.
Put it in the fridge for about an hour.
Feast.

XOXO

Where do I get a rat?

NOW, FOR THE BIGGEST QUESTION OF ALL.....

WHERE DO I GET MY RAT?

Do not get your rats from Petco, Petsmart, etc. Why? They die. TRAGIC. I made the mistake, twice.... *Looks out into the distance*  Let's get to the bottom of this. They die. The breeding conditions are poor, the handling is poor, they won't make it. Any type of illness or disease. I had gotten two rats, Luci and Cheese. Cheese died a couple of days later. So we got Midnight from the same place. Luci died. So we got Lilac, but from a person who couldn't keep her anymore. So,  two out of three rats died. Death is TRAGIC. TRAGIC, I TELL YOU! *Sniffle.*

(Whenever I imagine a ratty angel, I imagine a bat. Huh.)

PLEASE get your rats from a breeder no matter how far away it is. Nine hours? 30 minutes? It's worth it. PLEASE make sure that the breeder is extra safe for any reason. Other option; search on craigslist or something like that for some responsible person that needs to give away his/her two rats that he/she got from a breeder. (For reasons like: "I'm allergic to the rats" Or "I can't take care of them anymore, I'm moving or my dog wants to eat them.")

MARIN

Oh, so sorry........ We introduced our rats..... not us...................

My name is Marin, obviously. I like Minecraft, Blogging, Roblox, and of course, rats!! (I also like any other animals.) I will stretch the truth in many ways (Ask Clara) And this is why;

My sister's hamster pooped on my rats and my rats were blinded by it so they ran into a wall and hit their head and passed out and when they woke up they were in a room they had never seen before and I was searching everywhere for them when I got a rug burn because the day before I have set up a booby trap to capture a burglar that was well known and wanted something from my room and he had kidnapped Obama (So sad) and I was so upset by it that I kicked a wall and I broke my foot so we had to go to the emergency room when the docter said that I had a rare case of No-Blogging-itis because I didn't blog for a month and I got so shocked that I went in a coma and I dreamt that........

If your rat hammock smells like poop.....

If your rat hammock smells like poop... (Please excuse my non-lady like gestures) look at this!!!

So what I do when my room starts smelling like a sewer... (Sorry ratikinns) It's partly the hammock.

And the platforms...

And the rats....

Ways to prevent that from happening is...

For the hammocks, get two of them. Place one in your rat cage (Duh) And when that one smells bad, replace it with the other one. While that clean one is developing serious stink, clean up the first one by either putting it in the laundry (Make sure it's safe first) or hosing it off. When the second one smells bad, replace it with the clean one. Keep doing that.

For the rats...

Simply wash them every month or so with the directions from the Bath Time post.

For the platforms, get baby wipes and wipe them off 2 times a day.

Clean your rat's cage every week.

XOXO

Deciding if you would like a pet rat… With Clara

Hey Guys! Clara Here!!

Thinking about getting a pet rat?

Not sure if you have the right life style?

What are pet rats like?

What am I required to do, having a pet rat?

I will answer all of your questions.. don't worry.

Supplies required for having rats:

Water bottle filled with fresh water every day

Small pet bowls

Kibble (You need to refill it every day)

Fruits and Veggies

At least 2 rats

A large cage (HAMSTER CAGES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE)

Fresh bedding every week

A cage cleaning every week

hammocks and tunnels

Levels in their cage

A bunch of attention!!

Lots of love!

Occasional baths

And a wheel, witch is pretty much optional,

If you are still reading, you are probably okay with this list.
Your rats will need much more attention than hamsters, you will need to take them out and let them run around frequently. If cared for properly your rat will become your BFF. They love to cuddle and explore you and your house, and over time they get even more and more comfortable with you, you can even teach them tricks!!
Rats are excellent first pets for responsible children who are able to properly care for, and handle your pet rats.

Where to get your pet rats from: Do not get your pet rats from a large chain petstore. Where they come from is a cruel, harsh environment, their parents are mass bred. Basically, the cute baby rats are sent to pet stores, and the less cute ones are sent to be sold as snake dinner.. ):
Also, almost all rats from large chain pet stores have multiple diseases, and may die within the first month you have them.

Look online for a rat breeder in your area. If there are no suitable breeders in your area, look on an adoption website and see if there are any rats you can adopt from people who can no longer care for their rats.

Pet rats  are amazing, fluffy, or not so fluffy if its a hairless rat, little creatures. You will fall in love with their twitchy whiskers, and their sassy personalities.

                                  GO PET RATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XOXO

Cage Decorating!!!

Hello!

Today I will give some brief ideas on how to add some pazzazz to your rat cage.

Have any small cereal, cracker, or cardboard boxes? Cut multiple holes in each one and set them in your rat cage. Your rats will love crawling in and out of these fun houses!!

Get or make some hammocks!! You can either get a hammock at most pet stores, or you can also make one by sewing fabric into a thick square and adding clasps on each point.

Chew toys! Like all small rodents, Rats need to, well, pretty much saw down their teeth. And if they don't, their teeth will grow too long and many problems will occur…
Wood blocks purchased from the pet store are usually a great choice. However DO NOT USE PINE OR CEDAR, THEY CONTAIN CHEMICALS THAT CAN FATILY HARM YOUR RAT.
And as for painted wood being chewed by your rat, well, thats really your opinion. But personally, do you really want your rats chewing on dye or paint? Just saying….
So for my rats, Un-painted wood other than Cedar or Pine are the way to go.

Add tunnels, slides, platforms made of various materials, and your your rat cage is sure to have that desired Sparkle!!!

XOXO

Bath #2

Okay, so, if your rats still can not stand being in the water,
your arm is being ripped up,
and your rats smell like old cheese,
Please continue reading….

In this post I will tell you how I bathe my rats.

1.Open a drawer. (dresser drawer, bathroom drawer etc.)

2.lay a old towel over the drawer covering the bottom and sides of the drawer.

3.Get a cup of warm water and lay it next to the drawer.

4. Grab some baby or pet soap and set it next to the drawer.

5. Take a bag of your rats favorite treats and lay it next to the drawer.

6. Set your rat in the drawer.
(Space-wise, it is really better to do one rat at a time, but I suppose you could do more.)

7.Slowly pour the warm water over your rat and take a tiny drop of soap and massage it in.

8. While you are doing this, repeatedly give your rat treats.

9. You can also take a soft old toothbrush and gently scrub your rat.

10. Take more warm water to wash the soap out of your wet-non-fluffy-but-adorable-rat and wrap them in a warm towel to help dry them off.

11. hold your rat and massage your rats fur with the towel until your rat is mostly dry.

Now You Can Enjoy Your Fluffy Rat!!

XOXO
